If you are emptying a garage in Airdrie or clearing a flat in Coatbridge, the choice usually comes down to a skip on the drive or a two-man clearance crew. They are priced completely differently: a skip charges for a container and a disposal allowance, a clearance charges for labour and takes the waste with it. Which is cheaper depends almost entirely on who is doing the lifting.
What you are actually paying for
A skip price covers delivery, the container, a weight allowance and collection. It does not cover a permit if the skip sits on a public road, and it does not cover any labour — every item you throw in, you carry yourself.
A clearance price covers two people, a van, the loading and the licensed disposal. At £70 per hour for two men, a typical garage or single-room clearance runs two to four hours.

When a clearance crew is the better buy
For most household jobs the clearance wins, because the waste is upstairs, heavy, or awkward — and because you get your weekend back.

- Properties with no driveway, where a skip needs a road permit
- Anything you physically should not be lifting
When a skip still makes sense
Skips are genuinely better for slow, heavy, self-generated waste. If you are stripping a bathroom over a fortnight and filling the container yourself as you go, a skip on your own driveway is hard to beat on cost per tonne.

Disposal, licensing and what happens to your waste
Anyone removing waste for payment in Scotland must be a registered waste carrier with SEPA, and you are entitled to ask for that registration. Fly-tipped waste traced back to you can land you with the fine, even when someone else dumped it.
We take loads to licensed transfer stations and recycling centres, and separate what can be recycled or reused before the rest is disposed of. Ask for a receipt or transfer note on any clearance you book, from us or anyone else.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit for a man and van clearance?+
No. The van is only parked while we load, so no skip permit or road licence is needed, unlike a container left on a public road.
Can you clear a flat on an upper floor?+
Yes. Most of our clearances in Coatbridge, Airdrie and Wishaw are tenement flats. Tell us the floor and whether there is a lift so we can quote the time accurately.
What cannot be taken?+
We cannot take hazardous waste such as asbestos, chemicals, paint tins with liquid paint, gas bottles or clinical waste. Everything else household or office is usually fine.
