Man and Van in Coatbridge and Airdrie: Local Moving Guide

ML5 and ML6 are our home patch. What local moves actually involve here, from tenement stairs off Main Street to short hops across to Airdrie and out to Glasgow.

Coatbridge and Airdrie sit close enough that a move between them is usually inside our included 10-mile allowance, which makes the price simple: it is time, not distance. This guide covers what we see week to week on ML5 and ML6 jobs, and how to make them faster.

Typical local jobs and how long they take

Most work here is flats, small houses and clearances, with a steady flow of commuter moves to and from Glasgow. Because the distances are short, the hours are dominated by access and packing rather than driving.

Access, parking and stairs in ML5 and ML6

Parking is generally easier here than in Glasgow's controlled zones, but the older tenement and four-in-a-block flats still mean stair carries. Tell us the floor and whether the close door can be propped, and the estimate will land close to the day.

For terraced streets with rear lanes, mention whether the lane is passable for a Luton-sized van — it is often the shortest carry if it is.

Waste, recycling and clearances

North Lanarkshire operates household recycling centres with permit and vehicle restrictions, and vans and trailers usually need a permit to enter. That catches out anyone planning to borrow a van and do a clearance themselves.

A booked clearance avoids the issue entirely: we are a registered waste carrier, we take the load to a licensed transfer station, and you get the waste gone the same day for £70 per hour with two men.

Moving between Lanarkshire and Glasgow

Coatbridge to Glasgow city centre is a short run, but timing matters more than mileage. Aim to be loaded outside the morning and late-afternoon peaks on the A8 and M8, and month-end Fridays will always be slower.

Mileage beyond the first 10 miles is £1 per mile, so most Lanarkshire-to-Glasgow moves add only a few pounds of distance charge to the hourly total.
